Triumphal arc of the Sergi - Golden Gate

zlatna vrata

Golden Gate was erected in 29-27. BC by Sergijevci in honor of three members of his family who held high positions ranked positions in Pula. The Arch was located along the city gate Porta Aurea which received its name because of the rich ornaments on the arch and the doors. Gates and ramparts were demolished in the early XIX century during the urbanization and expansion outside the city walls. The Arch was built in Corinthian style, with strong Hellenistic and asia-minor influences, which is especially evident in the manner and motives of decoration. Since the eastern part was not visible, it remained largely unsculptured, while the visible western side of the Arch was richly decorated.
