Peninsula Vižula

The villa on the archaeological site near the peninsula Vizula in Medulin is built on several terraces and oriented towards the sea. Created in the period from I to IV. century, that is during the reign of Emperor Augustus and Constantine. By some indications, the territory was operational until the sixth century. At older part of the villa, from the I and II. century, there were discovered black and white mosaics. The mosaic, which dates back to the "newer" phase, or the fourth. century, was found later in the thermal part of the villa. Due to the annual movement of the coastline, which is 2 millimeters per year, about a third of the villa is now under the sea. It is at this thermal area that a perfectly designed thermal system has been discovered. It started with a wooden stove from which the heat is passed through beds and hollows, thus warming the floors and walls of the villa.
